RT5 JS+

Hardware and Software Upgrade to RT5 JS+

The upgrade from RT5 to the RT5 JS+ was a major undertaking from Helitune to provide the customer with an easy route to increase the longevity of the RT5 series whilst minimising disruption to operating procedures.
As part of this process as much of the RT5 has been utilised in the upgrade as is possible. The familiar green case still houses the console with the main part of the case now providing storage for the new smaller DMU, Junction box and accelerometers.
Hardware changes:

DMU - due to advances in technology this is now a much smaller unit utilising two state of the art processors. In real terms this equates to quicker acquisition with vibration collections up to 11 times quicker. This means less airborne time which translates to savings for the customer.
Console - Although the same size as the original there have been significant changes made to the RT5 JS+ console, namely:

  • Larger Screen

  • Printer now located at console (was on DMU with RT5)

  • Card Reader now located at console (was on DMU with RT5)

  • New style Compact Flash cards (38 pin SRAM with RT5 susceptible to bent pins)

  • Ergonomic redesign of key layout

The new console configuration now allows the operator to access the printer and card reader directly therefore removing the need to access the DMU and allowing it to be conveniently located on the airframe.

Software changes:

The Firmware is at Version 20 or later. To ensure an easy upgrade path the main software operates the same as the RT5. This means an RT5 operator can easily migrate to the RT5 JS+ with the minimum of training.
However due to the new processing technology the speed of operation has increased dramatically. To further enhance the RT5 JS+ an “Advanced FFT” function has been added to provide the operator with a dynamic “analyser type” capability. This function allows the operator, at anytime during standard collection, to select a specific bandwidth centred on any frequency between 0-10kHz with up to 1600 line accuracy. This provides an extremely powerful tool for fault diagnosis.
